Linden (postcode 2778) is one of the smallest and quietest villages in the Blue Mountains, sitting at approximately 630 metres elevation between Woodford and Lawson. The suburb is known for the historic Linden Observatory, built in the 1940s by amateur astronomer Ken Beames using hand-ground mirrors and a telescope he constructed himself. The observatory is heritage-listed and sits on a large bushland block off Glossop Road, surrounded by some of the suburb's largest properties. Linden's residential streets extend south from the Great Western Highway into dense bushland, with many homes on larger blocks than the neighbouring villages.

Linden shares the mid-mountains climate: cold winters with overnight temperatures regularly dropping to 0°C to -2°C, frost on most winter mornings, and occasional light snow.
